VN cooperates with Cambodia on drug prevention

VGP – Việt Nam and Cambodia underlined strong determination to implement synchronous measures on prevention and fighting against drug.

Deputy PM Truong Vinh Trong, Chairman of the National Steering Committee for HIV/AIDS, Drug and Prostitution Prevention on Tuesday in Ha Noi met with his Cambodian counterpart Ke Kim Yan who is leading a high-ranking delegation on a working visit to Việt Nam.  

Both the host and the guest leaders highlighted their resolve to implement synchronous measures to deepen bilateral coordination in drug prevention.

Specifically, both sides pledged to give a priority to information sharing, staff training, statistic and analysis of drug information.

The two sides also agreed to reinforce anti-drug activities and combat drug-related crimes in border areas in order to ensure national defense and build the common border areas of peace, friendly, stability and development.

Over the past time, the Party and people of Viet Nam have attached importance to the anti-drug task while mobilizing strength of the whole political system to combat drug trafficking and usage, said Deputy PM Trong.

As of June 2010, there were 140,000 drug addicts in Viet Nam, 6% lower against late 2009.

For his part, Deputy PM Ke Kim Yan expressed his hope that the Vietnamese Government would create favorable ways for Cambodian working groups to learn from Việt Nam’s rehabilitation experience of methadone substitution and other successful models./.
