Regional Francophonie Conference:  “Consumer right protections: from the Asian and European views”

On the morning of September 27, in Sofitel Plaza, the regional Francophonie Conference titled “Consumer right protections: from the Asian-European views” was jointly held by the Vietnam-France Legal House and  Department of Vietnam Competition Administration under the Ministry of Trade and Commerce, with the financial support of The French Ministry of Foreign affairs and OIF.

Mr Tran Tuan Anh, Deputy Minister of Trade and Commerce; Mr Jean- François Girault, French Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr Patrice Burel, Director of the Regional Bureau of Asia Pacific (BRAP) - OIF, attended the conference and delivered speeches. The conference also welcomed more than 200 delegates representing Ministries, sectors, embassies, research institutes, universities, businesses, banks from France, Francophonie and Asian countries.

Attendees exchanged information, experiences and practices in the field of consumer right protections in the legal systems of France, the European Union and some Asian countries like: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailands. The conference aslo listened to reports of regional and international experts from Institute of State and Law, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Trade and Commerce, French universities, French-Vietnamese financial and banking organisations.

The presentations and reports at the conference mainly focused on certain areas such as: consumer protection when signing the contract; consumer protection in e-commerce, consumer protection with financial and banking services, consumer right protection in real estate sales, consumer protection with administrative services, responsibilities of individuals and organisations with defected products, procedures of solving the civil cases of consumer right protection. At the conference, Mr Bach Van Mung, Director of Vietnam Competition Administration Department, would also introduce the Draft Law on consumer protection./.- ITD
