President: Justice Ministry vital to reform of judiciary

14/05/2010
Ha Noi — President Nguyen Minh Triet said that the Ministry of Justice held a vital role in the country's process of judiciary reform.

Speaking at a meeting to review the sector's work in 2009 and this year's tasks in the capital city yesterday, the president spoke highly of achievements gained by the judiciary sector in 2009, particularly in helping the Government and the National Assembly to build, implement and further complete the country's legal framework.

Triet told the participants that he was very happy to see the strong development of the country's judicial system, ranging from the central down to the grassroots level, particularly in human resource development and international co-operation, as well as technology transfers.

He expressed his hope that the sector would continue its hard work to contribute more to the country's current judiciary reform.

"Only deep international integration will help us to further develop," said Triet.

"But during the integration process, opportunities and challenges always go together, so we should maximise opportunities to develop while minimising our challenges."

He said that the Party and Government was determined to build a socialist state ruled by law in Viet Nam. To achieve that goal, the Ministry of Justice had a big role to perform.

He asked the ministry to share experiences from other countries and apply successful lessons in the country, but only with thorough consideration.

He also asked the ministry to increase the information, education and communication campaign to help the people enforce the laws voluntarily.

He laid special emphasis on the implementation of civil judgements by the courts in line with protecting citizens' rights.

In his report, Minister Ha Hung Cuong reviewed the work of his staff in 2009, including their strengths and weaknesses.

Regarding the tasks of the ministry for the year, Cuong said that the sector would focus more on law building projects assigned by the National Assembly to his ministry and give comments on documents to be presented at next year's National Party Congress, along with the strategy for the development of the judiciary sector in the period from 2011-2020 and the master plan for the sector till 2020. — VNS
