The Workshop on “Integrity in Judiciary – International Standards and Implications for Vietnam”On 10 October 2014, Institute of Public Policy and Law (IPL) together with Towards Transparency held the Workshop on “Integrity in Judiciary – International Standards and Implications for Vietnam”.The Workshop was held with the participation of representatives of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Internal Affairs, the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform, the Ministry of Justice, Hanoi Law University, Faculty of Law – Hanoi National University and other agencies. Prof. Dr. Dao Tri Uc – Council’s President of the Institute of Public Policy and Law chaired the Workshop.During the Workshop, a number of presentations were delivered, including judicial integrityin theprocess of constructing and improving the rule-of-law State of Vietnam; Integrity inthe operation ofthelaw enforcementagenciessharing someresearchresultsfroma national integritysystemofVietnamIntegrity in the operation oflawyers:international standardsandVietnamJudicial independencetheinternationallegal frameworkandVietnamCourtadministrationandensuringthe independence ofjudgesinVietnamIntegrity in theoperationof the courtssharing someresearchresultsfroma national integrity system of Vietnam; Performance monitoring mechanisms of the judicial agencies in the world and in Vietnam, and Accessing to Justice, from the perspective of legal aid.Currently, Vietnam has participated in several treaties and international agreements to promote judicial independence: ASEAN Declaration of Human Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Beijing Declaration of Principles for Judicial independence. According to the international legal framework, judicial independence is a fundamental human right that all UN members must provide their citizens. An independent judiciary is fundamental to the prosperity of the national and international economy. In addition, citizens expect the judge to make his/her decision only basing on the facts and the law, but not under theillegal influence.In addition,in viewof the TowardsTransparencyTT), in order to ensurejudicialintegritytransparency ofjudicialoperationsaccountability anddisciplineinthe judiciary need to be imporved. Moreover, the fairnessin theappointment ofjudges andthe working conditionsofthe judiciary should be enhanced./.
