* On August 16, Thua Thien Hue provincial People’s Committee held the ceremony to award State President’s decision on the grant of Vietnamese nationality for 29 individuals living in A Luoi district. According to the provincial Department of Justice, there are now 215 statless persons in Thua Thien Hue province, of which 147 cases are eligible to receive Vietnamese nationality. On April 6, 2012, State President issued Decision No. 432/ QD-CTN to grant Vietnamese nationality for 29 individuals, the provincial Department of Justice are now examining papers in the dossiers with the remaining 118 cases.

* The National Assembly's Standing Committee debated the necessity and subject of a draft law on Conciliation Work at the local level on the fourth day of its 10th session. Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong said the ordinance that has been in effect for 13 years has failed to properly regulate the rights and tasks of conciliators and attract more participants. So it is necessary to adopt a new bill soon which specifies how reconciliation work should operate, he said. Regarding the subject of the bill, law makers suggested that there should be specific regulations on how civil organisations (ie. front fatherland committees, youth unions, women's unions) participate in conciliation activities at the grassroots level. Also, co-ordination should be enhanced between reconciliators and these civil organizations.
