Workshop reviewing laws on mutual judicial assistance
On August 23, Ministry of Justice held the workshop reviewing laws on mutual judicial assistance. Deputy Minister Le Thanh Long attended and delivered opening speech.

The review helps to have a full picture of laws on mutual judicial assistance. It also aims at evaluating the contents and practice of the laws, finding the shortcomings, weakenesses and gaps in the current stipulations on judicial assistance.

Up to May 10, 2012, Ministry of Justice has reviewed 46 legal normative documents, including 18 laws, 2 ordinances, 11 decrees, 13 circular and joint circular, 2 resolutions of the National Assembly, 1 resolution of its standing committee and 1 resolution of the judicial Council of People Supreme Court. Accordingly,16 documents are recommended to amend, supplement and newly issue.

The review also found out that the implementation of laws on legal assistance still faced with lots of difficulties due to the weak coordination of agencies, limited capacity of staff and lack of facilities and data. Besides, the promulgation of documents guiding the implementation of Law on judicial assistance is slow. After 3 years of Law issuance, there are now only 2 guiding documents and other 9 documents are planning to issue.
